Mr. Varick's Welcome:
In its simplest, most-elegant form, the primary purpose – the mission, vision, and philosophy – of a high-quality Catholic school can be expressed with three simple, but very powerful words:
AUTHOR OF HOPE
What does this mean? As a school community, we will work to assure every parent that each of their children will be known, valued, and respected as an individual person, and that each day we will strive to help their children grow in all ways: spiritually, academically, emotionally, physically, and socially. This covenant with families is expressed in the following pledge:
Each child is recognized as a unique individual and treated respectfully. The child is enabled to become a fully alive human being who knows what it is to love self, others, and God
We acknowledge the role of the parents as the primary educators of their children.
We are dedicated to partnering with families in the pursuit of educational excellence.
We pledge to get to know every child, meet them where they are at, and tailor instruction and assessment to foster success every day.
We offer a comprehensive, standards-based curriculum that integrates Catholic values throughout scholar life.
We are committed to bringing alive the Gospel in our community and instilling in our scholars service to others as a life-long habit.
We welcome all faiths.
We embrace the diversity of life
Not only is Jesus our Savior, He is also the greatest teacher of all time. His lessons and his life form the foundation of Catholic education. Catholic schools develop the intellect while providing a safe, caring environment in which scholars mature and reach their potential. Christ is always present, whether in the classroom, on the playground, at Mass, or during extracurricular activities.
The responsibility ultimately rests with me as the principal to assure that this pledge is fulfilled. However, I fully recognize that I alone cannot do this. It requires a true partnership between the school and its families to succeed. Inherent in this partnership is the understanding that the following elements are essential:
High expectations for scholar achievement in all areas – spiritual, academic, emotional, physical, and social – from all constituencies.
Highly effective faculty as evidenced by differentiated instructional strategies; varied and authentic assessment vehicles; technology effectively integrated into curriculum, instruction, and assessment; all of which is supported by quality professional development.
The understanding that individual scholar achievement is the joint responsibility of the school, the parents, and the child, and each plays a defined, integral part.
There is a further understanding that the responsibility the child assumes for his / her learning grows over time with the ultimate goal to graduate an independent learner with the tools necessary to achieve at the highest level in the high school of his / her choice.
Service to others is a life-long commitment . . . following in the footsteps of Jesus.
Any parent who wishes to enroll his / her child at Our Lady of Grace Academy should expect that we will do everything possible to help that child reach his / her comprehensive potential.
Once again, welcome to Our Lady of Grace Academy!
